Winter Solstice...

Preparing for the party, inside:

The Christmas tree is decorated...

Mary has created a seasonal Mantlepiece arrangement...

Warming food has been prepared and the cellar! restocked.

The lights are on in the garden...

...will the weather be warm enough to sit outside?

You could throw another Yule Tide log on the fire...

...just don't sit to close or you may melt!

Our good friend Tina sent me this poem by Susan Cooper.

Susan Cooper

“And so the Shortest Day came and the year died
And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world
Came people singing, dancing,
To drive the dark away.
They lighted candles in the winter trees;
They hung their homes with evergreen;
They burned beseeching fires all night long
To keep the year alive.
And when the new year's sunshine blazed awake
They shouted, revelling.
Through all the frosty ages you can hear them
Echoing behind us - listen!
All the long echoes, sing the same delight,
This Shortest Day,
As promise wakens in the sleeping land:
They carol, feast, give thanks,
And dearly love their friends,
And hope for peace.
And now so do we, here, now,
This year and every year.”

Happy Christmas.

  2. It's a touch blowy here... definitely not warm enough to be outside. More's the pity.
    Have a very Happy Christmas Brian.

    1. It was a little 'Fresh' to sit outside here, even with the fire!

  3. Hope that you enjoyed the party Brian. It all looks most inviting. It was warm enough to sit outside here today with a coat on - the wind took the edge off the temperature. Wishing you peace and joy at Christmas.
